How can we work towards minimizing future teaching shortages, diversifying the teaching force, and at the same time solve immediate school staffing challenges?

In this session, we will investigate the vital role that substitute teachers play in the school ecosystem and how these teachers can enable innovative staffing models. We will discuss ways to build and leverage this talent pool/pipeline and upskill substitutes to provide consistent learning outcomes when called upon.

What are the key takeaways from this session?

  • Using substitute teaching as a pathway to lead teaching while breaking down barriers to help bring diverse, skilled educators into the profession
  • Providing healthier working conditions for full-time teachers thereby strengthening retention for staff already in the building
